We believe that the foundation of a great dog begins with health. All our dogs undergo extensive health testing, including genetic screenings and OFA certifications, to ensure they are free from preventable genetic conditions.

03. Ethical Breeding
Mae was my first Labrador and she was my world. I purchased Mae from a breeder who asked no questions, offered no guidance, and did the bare minimum to ensure the health and well-being of her puppies. At the time, I didn’t know much about what it meant to be a responsible breeder. She grew into the sweetest, most loyal companion I could have asked for. She was everything you’d want in a Labrador—gentle, loving, and full of life. But what I didn’t know then was that Mae carried a genetic condition that would eventually steal her sight and change her life forever. I learned that Mae wasn’t just a carrier of a preventable genetic disease—she had it.
My heart shattered as I realized that my beautiful girl’s life as she knew it, by something that could have been prevented with a simple test by her breeder. Mae’s story is the foundation of everything we do at Upper Cumberland Labradors. Her struggle and the knowledge that it could have been avoided drive us to be the kind of breeders who leave no stone unturned when it comes to the health and well-being of our dogs. We vowed to breed Labradors that would never suffer the way Mae did, ensuring that every puppy we produce is free from preventable genetic conditions.

Our story began with a Labrador named Mae
From plans on paper to paws on concrete – watch our dream kennel, years in the making, come to life! We’ve meticulously designed this doggy paradise, ensuring every detail is perfect. We look forward to opening its doors in 2025.

I came into the relationship with two Labrador Retrievers and a litter of puppies, and Cory welcomed them all with open arms. He quickly fell in love with the breed & we founded AGL Retrievers together.

We are dedicated to ensuring that no dog we produce ever has to suffer the way Mae did, and we are passionate about educating others on the importance of responsible breeding practices.
